Frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
Black Mountain Physio is a home-based clinic at 1184 Henderson Drive, Kelowna, BC. Details on free parking and accessing the clinic are sent to you automatically at the time of booking through our online booking system.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required. You can book directly for any of our services.
Is physiotherapy covered by insurance?
Most extended health benefit plans cover registered physiotherapy and physiotherapy-led services, including bike fitting. Coverage varies by plan, so it is recommend checking with your provider ahead of your appointment. Receipts are provided for direct submission to your insurer. Black Mountain Physio currently offers direct billing for Pacific Blue Cross and Telus eClaims — if you have coverage through either of these providers, it can be billed directly on your behalf.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For pelvic health appointments, loose-fitting bottoms are ideal. For bike fitting, wear what you'd normally ride in — and bring your bike.
How long are appointments?
Initial physiotherapy appointments are typically 45 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 30-45 minutes depending on the treatment. Bike fitting appointments are approximately 2 hours for full assessment and on-bike fitting or 1 hour for the optional partial bike fit assessment or follow-up appointments.
What does pelvic health physiotherapy involve — and does it include internal examination?
Pelvic health physiotherapy can include internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles, but this is always discussed and consented to beforehand. It is never assumed or rushed. External assessment and treatment alone is always an option, and you are in control of what happens in every session.
I had a baby a while ago — is it too late for postpartum physiotherapy?
Not at all. It is never too late to address postpartum changes. Whether you gave birth six weeks ago or six years ago, pelvic health physiotherapy can make a meaningful difference.
Do you treat people of all genders for pelvic health?
Yes — pelvic health care at Black Mountain Physio is for every body and every gender. Katie works with women, men, and gender-diverse individuals, and is committed to providing affirming, respectful care for all. This includes postpartum recovery, menopause, endometriosis, prostate cancer prehab and rehabilitation, gender-affirming surgical rehabilitation, overactive bladder, pelvic pain, and more. Katie is one of very few pelvic health physiotherapists in the Okanagan offering this breadth and depth of pelvic care — if you have questions about whether this is the right fit for you, please reach out.
What is therapeutic ultrasound for blocked milk ducts?
Therapeutic ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to break down blocked ducts, reduce inflammation, and restore comfortable milk flow. It's highly effective and typically resolves the issue within one to two sessions.
How do you use acupuncture?
Acupuncture at Black Mountain Physio is used in two ways — as a treatment to support pain relief, tissue healing, and nervous system regulation, and sometimes as a diagnostic tool. In certain cases, using acupuncture to activate a muscle or release tension mid-session helps identify the most effective exercise to add to your home program. It's one of several tools that makes the approach here a little more precise than a standard physio visit.
I'm not sure which service is right for me — what should I do?
Just reach out. A quick conversation is all it takes to point you in the right direction. No question is too small, and there's no pressure.
