Pelvic health physiotherapy

Your body has been through a lot. Let's make sure it's getting the support it deserves.

What is pelvic health physiotherapy?

Pelvic health physiotherapy is specialized care for the muscles, connective tissue, and structures of the pelvis and pelvic floor. It combines hands-on assessment and treatment with exercise and education to address a wide range of conditions — many of which are deeply connected to life stages like pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause.

Treatment is always tailored to you. Sessions are private, 1:1, and conducted in a comfortable home-based clinic environment.

What we treat

Postpartum recovery

Your body after birth deserves proper rehabilitation — regardless of how you delivered, how long ago it was, or whether anyone has ever suggested you seek it out. Treatment addresses diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness or tension, scar tissue management, return to activity, and more.

Overactive bladder & incontinence

Whether you're leaking with activity, experiencing urgency you can't control, or making constant trips to the bathroom — these are common, but they're not something you just have to live with. Treatment addresses both overactive and underactive bladder function, and the pelvic floor patterns that drive them.

Perimenopause & menopause

Hormonal changes affect connective tissue, the pelvic floor, bladder function, and more. These changes are real — and they're treatable. You don't have to normalize symptoms that are getting in the way of your life.

Endometriosis & period pain

Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain are frequently undertreated and underdiagnosed. Pelvic health physiotherapy can play a meaningful role in managing pain, improving pelvic floor function, and improving quality of life — as part of your broader care team or as a standalone support.

Pelvic pain

Including painful intercourse, tailbone pain, hip-related pelvic pain, and persistent pelvic pressure or heaviness.

Blocked milk ducts — therapeutic ultrasound

A safe, effective, and fast-acting treatment for blocked ducts and early mastitis. Therapeutic ultrasound helps break down blockages, reduce inflammation, and restore comfortable feeding — usually within one to two sessions.

Post-surgical rehabilitation

Recovery after a C-section, hysterectomy, or pelvic surgery involves more than just waiting. Treatment focuses on scar tissue mobility, core and pelvic floor rehabilitation, and a gradual, supported return to the activities that matter to you.

Gender-affirming care — pre & post-surgical rehabilitation

Pelvic floor physiotherapy plays an important role in preparation for and recovery after gender confirmation surgeries. Black Mountain Physio offers a safe, affirming, and knowledgeable space to support your pelvic health at every stage of your journey.

Prostate cancer — prehab & post-surgical/radiation rehab

Urinary incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, and sexual health changes are common after prostate cancer treatment — and pelvic floor physiotherapy is one of the most effective tools for addressing them. Starting prehab before surgery or radiation can significantly improve recovery outcomes. I’m one of the very few pelvic health physiotherapists offering this specialized care in the Okanagan, and work with men at every stage — from diagnosis through recovery and beyond.

What to expect

Your first session begins with a thorough conversation — your history, your symptoms, your goals, and your life context. Assessment may include external and internal pelvic floor examination, depending on what's indicated and what you're comfortable with. Everything is explained, nothing is rushed, and you are always in control.

From there, we build a plan together — one that fits your body, your schedule, and where you want to go.
